The title of my article is “Irving MacArthur High School Evacuated Over Bomb Threat”
My article talks about Irving High School evacuating Wednesday because of a bomb threat. The caller told the school that the school would blow up in 30 minutes. The police officers searched the school and aloud the students to return to school at 10:45. The high school is the same one once attended by Ahmed Mohamed, a 14 year old student who was suspended at the beginning of this month because he brought a homemade clock to school that was confused for a hoax bomb. This event effects me, because this could be me and my school. If I was in this situation I have no idea what I would do. I am proud of the students for being brave. This affects the world, because it could happen to anybody. Bombers might not warn the school and just do it.
My current event assignment this week is called, “‘She was a demon’: Suspect in ‘Baby Doe’ murder obsessed with occult, prosecutors say
” It is about the murder of a 2 year old girl. I found my article on fox new. In my article it talks about how a mother and her boyfriend Rachelle Bond, and, Michael McCarthy, killed the 2 year old because she was allegedly “demon possessed.”
The body of baby Bella was found by a passerby walking their dog. Decomposition had ruined the chances of discovering who the baby’s real identity was, so for now they call the baby “Baby Doe” An artist sketched what they think the baby would look like in real life to help identify the baby. Michael Mcarthy allegedly admitted to a friend about killing the child. The unnamed friend that michael admitted to used to live with them, and later moved out because of the treatment of the baby. Rachelle Bond is being held on a 1 million dollar bond.
This event makes me mad because the life of a child is precious. Parents need to value children’s lives. My mom had a miscarriage and lost my baby sister and it was very upsetting. So I don’t understand how somebody could do that to a child. This event affects the world because it could be going on to children all around the world.
Lead 1- In result to RRHS’s phenomenal test scores over the past 3 years, starting January 20th RRHS will start having an open campus lunch policy open to all students except freshman. The policy extends lunch to 45 minutes adding 10 minutes to the period
Lead 2- Walmart has just announced that Rock Hill will be receiving the next Super Walmart in May of 2006. Some community members feel this is a bad idea because it will hurt local businesses, and they have started a petition and holding a town meeting January 20th. WM feels that since RH is a growing community they can handle 2 super WM’s in one time.
Lead 3- Due to the geniusness of 6th grade student Napolean Dynamite, Mr Fred George called Mrs.Mobley to request Napolean Dynamite to move up to high school immediately so that he will waste no time in middle school. He also would like Napolean to be more prepared and ready for Medical school.
Lead 4- Survery released yesterday by the child abuse prevention center in Baltimore showed that child abuse cases rose from 2.6 million to 2.7 million in the previous year. 3 to 4 children die everyday due to neglect and child abuse everyday. More than half the children who died were under the age of one, and 75% were under 5.
Lead 5- Damaging a 2 bedroom home in the 2300 block of Main Street, a fire in Los Gotas caused 76,000 in damages. Officials showed up at the house at 3:30 am and found it on fire. Luckily they got it under control in 5 minutes and homeowner Kathy Mahoney only suffered from minor burns on her hands and feet after being awaken by the fire.

My article talks about how Kyle Navin who is 27 was arrested and charged with “possession of a firearm by an individual who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance,”
Kyle’s parents, Jeffrey and his wife Jeannete Navin were last seen on Friday, August 4th at their trash removal and recycling company that they own themselves. Their blue pickup truck was found 4 days later by police. The couple had just been in a BIG financial blowup just days before they went missing but family members said it had nothing to do with that. Kyle Navin the son had been questioned and given non consistent information about when he had last seen his parents. Kyle said he hadn’t texted his parents the day they went missing, but cell phone records showed otherwise. Kyle received a text from his dad saying “I’m not going home till I know mom is okay… did you hurt mom?
“No Absolutely not. Why would you think,” Kyle replied.
Kyle’s dad response was
“I go home and get framed for murder… I’m going to the police first,” the son then texted the dad and said “U R setting me up.”
This does not affect me in any way but I think it should be taken seriously and taken care of right away. These are missing people and need to be found. This does not affect the whole world but it affects the family’s of this situation. I hope these people are found and no harm is done. This case upsets me & makes me angry. The police have evidence and need to get on this case immediately. I hope they find the link to my we people and arrest whoever needs to be.

Today my current event assignment is an article about an Egyptian billionaire offering to buy an island for war refugees. The title of the article I found on this topic is “Egyptian billionaire offers to buy island for refugees. I found my article on cnn.com. It is about Naguib Sawiris, one of the richest Egyptians. He has offered to buy land for war refugees to be safe. He stated that he is going to give them transpiration, jobs, universities, a place to live, and a new safe life. The refugees will have an option to leave whenever they would like. He is planning to name the island “Hope” He is planning to buy an island from either Greece or Italy. This article does not affect me at all. It does in fact affect the whole world, because he is saving a big part of the country. If i was in these peoples position I would think Naguib was a blessing from God. This article makes me happy and gives me hope in humanity that there are still generous selfless people in the world. The fact that Naguib is willing to spend a huge amount of his money and invest basically his whole rest of his life into this makes me happy. Because of this, I now have “hope”
The topic of my current event assignment is Kanye West running for president in 2020. The name of the article I have found is, “Kanye West declares 2020 presidential bid at VMA’s” I found my article on CNN online. In my article it talks about Kanye’s speech and how he thinks he would be a great candidate because he has ‘new ideas’. The grammar in Kanye’s speech was scary. He used words such as, “finna” and “bruh”. Just these two words alone show the intelligence of one of our future 2020 presidential candidates. In my opinion this is not something to be made a joke about. I don’t want my future to be based on a bunch of young people voting for somebody who has no idea about anything and being president. A lot of people are not taking this topic seriously because they think Kanye won’t actually win. If lots of people have that mindset then they will vote for Kanye to be funny, and Kanye could win. This event affects me and makes me very angry. I hope America has the common sense to look into voting and not just go vote as a practical joke. America is falling apart and is only getting worse. This may seem like a funny topic, but it needs to be taken seriously.
Swallowing Stones by Joyce McDonald is a book about a senior, Michael Mackenzie. Your picture perfect teenage boy. But Michael soon into the book changes his life forever when he fires his new Winchester Rifle, that used to belong to his grandfather, into the air on his seventeenth birthday, alone with his best friend Joe Sadowski. Michael never would’ve imagined that the bullet would go anywhere and end up killing someone.
In the story, the reader knows right away that Michael shot Charlie Ward, But the characters in the book think something else. Some of the guests at Michaels party told the police that they saw Joe holding the gun, which Joe says was true. But Joe also said he never fired the gun, that he just picked it up to look at it. Joe is the only one who knows that Michael shot Charlie Ward, and agreed not to tell anybody. Joe also covers for Michael and doesn’t rat him out when the police arrest Joe and question him.
Michael, at the time of the death, had no clue who Jenna was. But during the book he would grow to know Jenna more than she would ever know him. Michael kept watch over Jenna and her mom secretly throughout the book, cleaning their gutters, and keeping up with their yard work. Jenna and Meredith Ward had no clue who was doing these kind acts.
When all the stress gets to Michael, he doesn’t go to his current girlfriend,Darcey, for comfort. He went to Amy Ruggiero, the girl known as the school pig. Michael knew Amy had a terrible reputation, and even tried to use her like a toy before. But during the book, Michael finds out that Amy is a caring, loving person. Maybe even more than his girlfriend Darcey. The word gets out to Darcey pretty quickly about Michael and Amy, and they break up. But the story that Darcey tells Amy is way past the truth, and even kind of ruins Michael and Amy’s relationship.
Amy and Jenna meet at the movies while Amy is alone, kinda. And Jenna is on a date. When Jenna has a panic attack, Amy is the first to help her, and since then Jenna and Amy have a connection throughout the book.
Throughout the book, you hear about Michael’s daily struggles and his fight with himself. But you also hear about Jenna’s struggles with losing her father. But at the end of the book, Michael finally decides to admit to Jenna that he shot her father. But just when Jenna is waking up, the book ends.
I would definitely recommend this book to other people, it gets your heart racing in every chapter. Most people hated the ending, but personally, I loved it. When the author leaves you hanging like that, you get to basically pick your own ending, and i loved that.

My name is Savannah, I am in the eighth grade and im 14 and I live in Texas. I have a mom, a dad, a step mom, a step dad, and some brothers and sisters. I have a dog named Truffles, and she’s a yorkie. I used to have a police dog named Bor, but he passed away last month. I love to tumble and cheer. I am an incoming high school cheerleader and a competitive cheerleader. I have cheered and tumbled since I was 3. I also am in track. In track, I do sprints and high jump. I played club volleyball one year, but now I just play school volleyball. I’m also in band and I play the flute, but I am switching instruments. I am most known for my talking and not being shy.
