An emergency school board meeting being held, due to a hole in the district’s computer service will decided the fate of the school’s journalism department. The board will be discussing if they should rent computers for the journalism staff.

The yearbook class has a 48-page final deadline on February 27th. The district is allowing the yearbook advisor to download the information that is needed for the deadline before the system was shutdown

“Macworld in Southside agreed to let us rent four Macintosh computer with the necessary software for $500 for three weeks.” Rodney Stephens, yearbook advisor said. “That’s an Incredibly discounted price and much cheaper than what our yearbook company would charge us for a missed deadline.”

Some students aren’t as worried about the deadline as others.

“This year we pushed our final yearbook deadline back as far as we could to add more coverage to the book” Alexis Zavia, editor of the yearbook said. “In fact, before this computer hacking problem, we were ahead of schedule.

Although the school is upset about the shutdown, they are also moving quickly to fix the issue.

“I don’t think it was a student. This is some pretty sophisticated hacking.” Ed Robles, district technology director said. “We understand the inconvenience of the shut down, but it’s necessary.”

The schoo’ls annual yearbook signing is a big tradition that the seniors would not want to miss.

“We have to get our yearbooks before school is out.” Reggie white, senior, said. “Yearbook day is one of the highlights of senior year.”
